A Day to Remember
Posted by Sandra under Pink Saturday
Thanks to Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for hosting Pink Saturday each weekend. This week many of us are taking this time to remember 9/11. It’s the ninth anniversary of a day few of us will ever forget.
When thinking about 9/11 I’m reminded of all those other days that have bound our country together. I think of the way the news moved so slowly across the country with the news of Lincoln’s death. I often wonder what it was like for my parents to be sitting around the radio and hear the news that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. When I was in high school I remember someone coming into my Social Studies class and whispering something to the teacher. He then told us that Pressident Kennedy had been killed. My father called me from Florida the day the Challenger accident happened – he had been watching the launch when it happened.
Then we comd to 9/11. I was just getting ready to get up and listening to the radio. The information about a plane hitting the World Trade Tower. I immediately went to the living room after waking up my son. We were glued to the television for days, not able to believe what we saw.
There were moments of such terror that even though we were hundreds of miles from New York, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon, we felt as though we were there – going through the horror of the day – praying and hoping that thousands would be saved.
For those few days it was like we were all one person – feeling joy when a father found his family and feeling deep sorrow as we saw the building falls.
We will always remember 9/11 and pray that we never have to experience a day like that ever again.
We pray for the souls of those lost and their families and friends.
Sandra
